2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Engine Specs
We here at the Apple Valley Hyundai in Winchester, VA, are excited about the all-new 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz. Not only is it an all-new model for Hyundai, it’s also an all-new segment for the US: the subcompact truck. Despite its smaller stature, though, the 2022 Santa Cruz doesn’t mess around. It’s a powerhouse.
How much power does the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz have? Let’s take a look.
Performance and Power
The 2022 Santa Cruz will be available with either a 2.5L four-cylinder engine or a turbocharged 2.5L four-cylinder engine. The regular 2.5L four-cylinder will produce somewhere in the range of “190+ horsepower and 180+ lb-ft of torque,” with a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs on AWD models. The 2.5L turbo-four model has a lot more power, clocking somewhere in the “275+ horsepower and 310+ lb-ft of torque” range, sporting a max towing capacity of 5,000 lbs on the AWD variant. The standard 2.5L engine will be paired with an eight-speed automatic and the 2.5L turbo-four will have an eight-speed wet dual-clutch automated manual transmission.
How Does it Compare to the Competition?
At the time of writing, there’s only one other subcompact truck available on the American market: the 2022 Ford Maverick. It puts up an admirable fight, but it falls short of the 2022 Santa Cruz. The 2022 Maverick comes with either a 2.5L hybrid powertrain that produces 191-combined horsepower and 173 lb-ft of torque or a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Towing capacity maxes out at 2,000 lbs and 4,000 lbs, respectively.
