Smartphone Digital Key next to Hyundai car door

Hyundai Showcases Easy Way to Unlock and Start Vehicles

Hyundai Introduces Smartphone Digital Key

In recent years, we have seen a huge increase in vehicle technologies and features. However, manufacturers such as Hyundai have brought the technology outside of the vehicle and made many features compatible with smartphones. Now, as Hyundai introduces the smartphone Digital Key, drivers can unlock their car doors with their phones. Let’s take a look at how it works.

Recently, the Hyundai Motor Group announced they were in development of a new Digital Key. This new technology will allow drivers to unlock their Hyundai car doors and even start the vehicle via their smartphone.

This key will soon be available for download as an app and be used for up to four authorized people. The app uses Near Field Communication (NFC) and Bluetooth technology to detect the Digital Key-enabled phone as it gets close to the car door. In order to then start the car with the Digital Key, drivers will have to place the phone on the wireless charging pad in the center console and press the Start/Stop button.

As car sharing becomes more common, the Digital Key will then be programmed to support hassle free vehicle rental services so that the driver and car owner can transfer the Digital Key via the smartphone app.
