What is Hyundai Solar Charging System Technology?
As technology improves and advances over the years, automotive technology is also continuing to grow rapidly. As hybrid and electric vehicles have become more and more common, many advancements in technology also come to these kinds of vehicles. Now, Hyundai is partnering with Kia to create electricity-generating solar panels for vehicles. So, exactly what is the Hyundai solar charging system technology? Let’s take a look.
Solar Panels in Electric Vehicles
The new solar panels from Hyundai are being placed in the roof or the hood of various test vehicles that will help support the eco-friendly vehicle’s main power source. These will then charge batteries of these vehicles, as well as increase fuel efficiency, mileage and reduce CO2 emissions.
In fact, the Hyundai Motor Group is currently developing three different kinds of solar roof charging systems. These include the first-generation silicon solar roof system, a second-generation semi-transparent solar roof system and a third-generation lightweight solar-lid system.
“In the future, various types of electricity generating technologies, including the solar charging system, will be connected to vehicles. This will enable them to develop from a passive device that consumes energy to a solution that actively generates energy, who has developed this technology. The paradigm of the vehicle owner will shift from that of a consumer to an energy prosumer.”
-Jeong-Gil Park, Executive Vice President of Engineering Design Division of Hyundai Motor Group
Hyundai is planning to launch the first generation of this new solar charging system technology with their lineup of vehicles after 2019.
