The Hyundai Elantra has done it again, taking home yet another award, this time of the prestigious 2021 North American Car of the Year! This is the second time that the Elantra has taken home this award and there are only two other vehicles on the market that have won this award more than once, making the Elantra even more incredible. If you are interested in learning more about how Elantra won this award and more about the Elantra itself, keep reading below!
How did the Elantra win this award?
The NACTOY awards are now in their 28th year, making them one of the most prestigious award givers in the automotive industry. In fact, they are the longest running new-vehicle awards that are not associated with a single publication, television station, or website. A diverse jury of automotive journalists, from outlets around both Canada and the United States, select the Car of the Year through a series of votes. Jurors then evaluate the finalists based on categories like the value for the dollar, segment leadership, driver satisfaction, innovation, handling, safety, and design. The Elantra came out on top and it is clear to see why, boasting a dramatic four-door coupe look, the segment’s first use of wireless smartphone integration, an outstanding EPA estimated fuel economy with the first-ever Elantra Hybrid, and two mode performance models added to the lineup!
What else can you tell me about the Hyundai Elantra?
The Elantra was completely redesigned for the 2021 model year and it is better than ever before! There are three main trim levels offered, the SE, SEL, and Limited. Standard features for the 2021 model year include an 8-inch touchscreen, 15-inch alloy wheels, wireless Apple and Android smartphone integration, LED daytime running lights, dual USB ports, and a 4-speaker sound system. There are also a slew of standard safety features like blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, forward collision mitigation with pedestrian detection, and driver attention warning. The upper two trims add dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, leather-trimmed seats, rear automatic braking, navigation, enhanced voice recognition, a Bose sound system, heated front seats, a sunroof, and larger alloy wheels.
Can you talk more about the N Line and N performance Elantra models?
In the 2021 model year, Elantra boasts two performance models. The N Line comes with features like combination leather and cloth seats, special exterior styling details, sport-tuned springs and shock absorbers, a more sophisticated rear suspension design for better handling, and performance tires wrapped around 18-inch alloy wheels. The N model takes it up another notch with sport front seats, an even more sophisticated rear suspension, an N-specific steering wheel, larger brakes, and larger wheels wrapped in high-performance summer tires. These models also get their own exclusive engines for even more power.
